Welcome, Tarnished, to the first of many Elden Ring: Nightreign guides! Whether you're here preparing for the upcoming Closed Network Test or eager to refine your skills before the full release on May 30th, this guide will provide you with 10 crucial tips to maximize your success.
Unlike the original Elden Ring, Nightreign is faster-paced, more cooperative, and filled with rogue-lite mechanics that change how you approach combat, looting, and teamwork. So, here’s what you need to know to survive and thrive in Elden Ring: Nightreign!
Pick Up Every Weapon, Even If You Don’t Need It!
Weapons in Nightreign aren't just for combat, they also provide passive buffs, even when unequipped. Your first priority should be filling all six weapon slots, as this ensures you maximize your passive bonuses early on. Once you've equipped six weapons, then you can start focusing on which weapons suit your playstyle best.
However, teamwork is essential. If you're playing as a melee-focused fighter and you come across a powerful staff or sacred seal, consider sharing it with your spellcaster teammates. Sometimes, helping your team is the key to securing victory.

Master the Art of Quick Inventory Management
Nightreign is a fast-paced game where every second counts. Efficient menuing and item-sharing can give your team a crucial edge. You should frequently drop weapons, consumables, and upgrades for teammates who need them more.
For example:
If you find multiple smithing stones, share them with your teammates so everyone can upgrade their weapons.
If you’re stacked with firebombs, drop a few for your Guardian or Wylder, who might need ranged options.
Helping your teammates stay well-equipped will significantly improve your overall chances of winning.

Unlearn Elden Ring’s Mechanics And Adapt to Nightreign’s Faster Pace
While Nightreign shares many elements with Elden Ring, there are huge differences you must adapt to:
Matches are much faster: Battles are short and intense.
Loot is everywhere: Don’t hoard items, use them as soon as possible.
Progress resets after every match: Everything you collect except rogue-lite currencies is wiped when a match ends
Since nothing carries over, use every tool at your disposal. Don’t save items for later, there is no later. Win or lose, everything resets, so maximize every advantage you have in the moment.

Sprint to the Nearest Enemy Camp Immediately
When you drop into Limveld, you’re at level 1, which means you’re extremely weak. Even the lowest-tier hollow can kill you in a few hits!
To avoid early deaths:
Group up with your team and rush a nearby enemy camp or fort.
Farm runes quickly to reach level 3 or 4.
Once you hit level 3 or higher, you’re much stronger and can split up to cover more ground efficiently.
This early-game strategy will significantly increase your chances of survival and progression.

Communication is Key - Use Voice Chat or a Dedicated Team
Unlike Elden Ring, Nightreign is designed for team-based co-op play. While the game features a ping system, nothing beats voice communication for strategic coordination.
Why Join a Dedicated Group?
Coordinating attacks & sharing loot becomes seamless
You won’t get paired with random trolls who might sabotage your game
You’ll build better team synergy and improve your chances of victory
I highly recommend joining my Discord server, where we have multiple channels dedicated to Nightreign players, as this is a great way to find reliable teammates who want to help you achieve victory.
Use Pings for Strategic Marking
Once your team is strong enough to split up, proper use of the ping system can help keep everyone on track.
For example:
Defeated a boss without your teammates? Ping its location! Bosses and certain chests drop floating orbs that each teammate can interact with for individual rewards, this makes it much easier for them to find that location once they're done with what they're doing
Found a powerful chest? Mark it! Your teammates can swing by later and collect high-tier loot
By using pings strategically, your team will always know where to go to maximize efficiency.

Use Character Skills & Ultimate Arts for More Than Just Combat
Each Nightfarer class has unique skills and Ultimate Arts, but did you know they can be used for reviving teammates?
For instance:
Guardian’s “Wings of Salvation” can instantly revive both teammates while staggering nearby enemies
Using powerful AoE Ultimate Arts defensively can turn the tide of battle
Bonus Tip: If a teammate has already been downed multiple times (stacking purple bars), using an Ultimate Art for revival might be a better use than offense in certain situations.

Regularly Review Your Class Mechanics at Roundtable Hold
With eight distinct classes, Nightreign introduces many new mechanics. Luckily, there’s an altar with a bell at Roundtable Hold that lets you review each class’s abilities.
Why This Is Important:
Some Ultimate Arts have hidden mechanics (e.g., Wylder’s Onslaught Stake can be charged for extra power)
Certain classes (like Recluse) have complex mechanics that require understanding before use
Revisiting this menu frequently will ensure you never forget key mechanics.

Master Parkour – It’s a Game-Changer
Unlike Elden Ring, Nightreign has greatly improved movement mechanics:
Sprint everywhere: You gain stamina while sprinting
Double jump and grapple: Scale cliffs with ease
No fall damage: Jump off any height without consequences
These changes make traversal much faster. If you're not sprinting and climbing constantly, you're playing inefficiently!

Always Check & Equip Your Best Relics
At the end of each match, you’ll earn Relics, a new rogue-lite feature in Nightreign:
Relics provide powerful passive bonuses, such as infinite homing glintblades or permanent Scarlet Rot on all weapons
They can be freely swapped between classes
Higher match performance = better relics
Before starting a new match, always check your relics and equip the ones that best fit your playstyle and class.

Final Thoughts – Prepare to Conquer Nightreign!
And that’s it, Tarnished! These 10 essential tips will dramatically improve your performance in Elden Ring: Nightreign, whether you're preparing for the Closed Network Test or the full release on May 30th.
Remember to:
Pick up weapons for passive buffs
Share items & manage inventory efficiently
Communicate and coordinate with your team
Adapt to the faster pace & use new movement mechanics
Check your Relics & optimize builds before every match
